Historic Homes and Gardens . . .


Afton Villa Gardens - 9247 US Hwy. 61 - Seasonal - Site of Gothic home of the Barrow family that burned in 1963. Entrance is mile long drive of azaleas and live oaks.
Butler Greenwood Plantation - 8345 US Hwy 61 - c.1796, this elaborate Victorian home is home to the 8th generation of the Butler family. Extensive grounds include a sunken garden and very early gazebo.

The Cottage Plantation -10528 Cottage Lane - Early 1800s home supports large collection of dependencies original to plantation, includes elegant carriage. General Andrew Jackson "slept" here after victory in the War of 1812.
Greenwood Plantation - 6838 Highland Road - Reconstructed Greek Revival home from ruins of 1830s mansion that burned in 1960.
The Myrtles Plantation - 7747 US Hwy 61 - c. 1796 Filled with elegant antiques and faux work, displaying French influence. Surrounded with intrigue!
Oakley Plantation at the Audubon Historic Site (a LA State Park) - 11788 LA Hwy 965 - Site where John James Audubon tutored and painted, this West Indies style home is furnished in the Federal period and offers great walking opportunities, and out buildings.
Rosedown Plantation - 12501 LA Hwy 10 Excellent restoration of 1845 mansion; 28 acres of gardens.

St. Francisville Town - Historic downtown St. Francisville is recognized on the Register of Historic Significant Sites.

Grace Episcopal Church - 11621 Ferdinand Street - established in 1827; present structure c.1858, survived gunboats barrage from the Mississippi River. Very historic cemetery framed by ancient live oaks.
Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church - Ferdinand Street @ Sewell Street - c.1871 Built from plans by General P.G.T. Beauregard
United Methodist Church - 9856 Royal Street - Built in 1899 to replace older structure ravaged by floods in Bayou Sara.
